Preparing for the LPC
With many people starting the LPC this month we thought this would be a good time to give our best hints and tips to help you navigate the interesting world of the LPC.
1. Prepare for a new style of learning.
For the majority of students, studying the LPC is like studying no other course out there. The fast paced nature of the course coupled with the in-depth assessments can leave many feeling easily confused and out of the loop. Studying the LPC can be difficult and at times seem endless but gives you the skills and abilities that other courses could never muster. You will make bonds with your peers that will stay with you throughout your work and personal life. No matter how hard the course becomes it never fails to insight and engage and give you the skills you need to succeed.
2 Network, network, network
One of the prominent parts of the LPC is that it gives you
the ability to network not only with your peers but with those already working
the legal sphere. Depending on the organisation you are studying with you will have
the ability to meet with firms, solicitors and barristers. Being able to connect
and bond with your peers will help you in the future when it comes to legal
work and opportunities. Being open to networking with legal professionals can lead
to further opportunities such as work experience and graduate scheme days. No
matter what area of work you want to go into networking will always help you progress.
3.
Do you reading when your told to.
We can all admit that there have been times in our
educational career where we have left reading to one side. Whether it be a
difficult chapter in a book or a very dry case judgement it can be tempting to
leave until to later. The fast-paced nature of the LPC and the constant turnover
of material means that leaving something to later could be costly. It is important
to keep your time well. It’s ok to take breaks from reading when it gets difficult
or dry, but coming back fresh is a must. This is something that will become second
nature within the first few weeks. Having this time keeping skill will follow
you through to your future working life and will benefit yourself and your
employer.
4.
Do not panic if you feel your sinking!
It’s common when studying the LPC to panic and think that the
amount of work you have is too much and impossible to complete. DON’T PANIC! Trust
us everyone is in the same boat and are feeling the same. The nature of the
course makes this feeling inevitable in the first few weeks. This feeling wont
last forever and before you know it you will be linking the dots and everything
will click into place. Have faith in your own ability, you have got onto this
course on your own ability and your ability will get you over the line.
5.
Enjoy what you are doing.
Ultimately, we study the LPC as a steppingstone to a future
career within the legal sphere and many see it this way, a stepping stone. However,
it can be so much more than this if utilised properly. The LPC can help forge long
lasting friendships. It can help us decide what direction we want to steer our
careers in. Have fun and enjoy what you are studying. Enjoying the subjects as
much as possible can only help you when it comes to assessments and ultimately passing
the course. The year you spend on the LPC will be like no other in your life
so enjoy what it throws at you and do the best that you can.
We hope that these tips help you throughout your LPC and we
hope that those starting there course this month enjoy every second. We wish
everyone the best of luck with their studies, and we would love to hear your
stories and experiences from studying on the LPC.
